Volunteer with MRU’s Iniskim Centre

Role Description
The Iniskim Centre at Mount Royal University is looking for a communication student interested in gaining experience and volunteer hours in the creation of a semi-monthly newsletter that is distributed to all self-identified Indigenous students on campus. The volunteer will collect information and posters from MRU staff and will be responsible for designing a digital newsletter with Indigenous design elements that connects students with campus and community events, resources and supports. The volunteer will report and work closely with the Indigenous Housing and Events Coordinator in reviewing the information and design. In addition to the newsletter there is an opportunity for volunteer hours to assist with managing the Iniskim Centre at Mount Royal University Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Start & End Date
The position will start immediately and continue until the end of the Winter 22 semester. There is the possibility of having the volunteer return for the next academic year as no newsletters are distributed from May-August.
Weekly Time Commitment 
2-4 hours per week, but flexible as the newsletter is sent on the 1st and 15th of each month.
Specific Skills Sets and Proficiencies 
Experience with Canva or a similar design software
Experience with Google Drive
Good communication skills
Knowledge of Indigenous design elements is an asset, but not necessary
